As a mostly salt water guy, I can use any and all advice available from the best of the kayak fishing community.  I will also do a google search for Kayak Fishing Yellowstone but I know I will get the pure unbiased truth here.

Thanks in advance and I will report back.

Yellowstone Lake is a large lake and creates it's own weather. Stay close to shore if you paddle there and keep an eye out for signs of thunderstorms. The weather can really turn bad there in a hurry. It is primarily a cutthroat trout fishery with an unfortunate introduction of lake trout. Trolling rapalas, spinners and spoons can be effective. I usually CNR the cutts and eat the lakers. The rest of yellowstone is mainly stream fishing. The whole area is a fly fishing dream. For family paddling, don't miss Jenny Lake in the Grand Tetons National Park. The scenery is is spectacular and so is Jackson Lake. A spinning rod with 6# test about 6 1/2 foot in length is all you need. For lures, buy them at the Yellowsone Lodge gift shop. They carry a decent supply of lures and the nice ladies who work there can help you. If you are going to hike much, you may want to work to carry some bear spray. Like the shark shield, it works 3 out of 4 times.  :smt044

From what I can tell cutthroat are CNR only and barbless hooks are required but I will need a fix being that far from the ocean and having driven thought the desert and all.  I am not to worried about bears or sharks for that matter.  I know the common sense stuff and do not plan on being in the back country.  But I may need some anti-bear shorts to match my anti-shark shorts  :smt005 :smt003
