OK so I'm gearing up for Ft Ross tomarrow. I dig out my 5 gallon bucket i keep my rockfish gear in from my partyboat and PB fishing days. As I'm chatting with wifey about the old days when we used 6 fly ganions and 2lb balls out at Cordell. I notice the fly rigs i have unopened are the 3 fly rigs.  I mention the 2 hook rule (news to me BTW) and figure I can use the old teaser fly technique above a bar jig or leadhead. Being smarter than me, she notices that all my bar jigs have treble hooks and asks how they factor in on the 2 hook rule.  Well I don't have a clue so I look at the regs and sure enough 2 hooks.  No mention of trebles.  I assume a treble is 1 hook but one on each end would be 2. So the $64000 Question is.......Can I still use them?

Ahhh the good ol days.

Treble is considered one hook.  You can run one shrimp fly as a teaser and still be within the regs.

You can still use the three hook leaders. Just snip one of the hooks and its still an attractant. I remember those old days. The Sea Dog #3 ? Remember her? Capt Bill. Before the Merry Jane and the New Sea Angler. Broomsticks and 2lb balls at 320 ft. hahahaha. lets fish together. I used to use the 5 hook leaders and the Capt would give us shit about tangling lines.

I do the same thing with rock cod rigs..  snip off the bottom hook and put some squid on the top one..  long as I have a big hammer on the bottom its all good!  :smt004

Ahh the old days..  I used to go out out on the Jaws with my dad and hitting cordell..   we either used those big gang rigs or just a huge ling bar sometimes.      Pretty sure the captain of jaws back then was rick powers but my recall that far back is fuzzy..  any rate my brother and I used to call him captn blye because being kids.. we would be leaning on the rail for a couple mins, deadarm  from hauling up fish from deep..  and hed come along and poke us in the back with his gaff yelling.. clear the way!   good times! lol
