NICE!  :smt023

Did you launch from Scott Creek or did you launch from Davenport?

That's a fatty.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Nice verm!  I'm salivating at my terminal just looking at that fine fish.  But what's with the two horns on its head?  j/k.

How bout some more details - depth, structure, etc.

thx!

thanks for compliments! It was in fact excellent table fare. Also was
pretty darn fun to catch.

molbasser, I did launch at scott's creek. I don't recommend it in general. but the reef will protect from nw swells to some degree. go out at the
creek mouth, paddle south a bit into the bay, then out around the reef. I have surfed that spot so I have a feel for the contour of the reef. we just parked above, dragged to the creek and paddled to the ocean.

I do have a whole theory (untested) on getting out and back in on the kayak through some surf tho. It involves dismounting and using one's own body as a drift anchor or tow engine.  Obviously one would get wet. I do something similar if I'm riding the kind of surfboard one cannot duck under the waves. Fortunately I did not have to test the theory on this trip, but it did cross my mind coming in through the fog.

paddling from davenport and then drifting all the way back would be a good morning, there is kelp the whole way. but it might be a long paddle.

We went out at scotts because we didn't have time to paddle there from
davenport landing and we didn't want to deal with the crowds that I know would be at davenport. And I just _KNEW_ there would be fish there,  :smt004

Yeah, look out for the Molbasser.  That hippy might try to slip you some tofu in your tapwater.   He's dangerous, that one.

I've paddled DPort up to the creek and it's not too long a paddle, provided prevailing winds are light.  I've caught flatties out in 50-70 feet of water right off of the beach at the DPort landing, rockfish and lings off the kelp, and flatties and sanddabs up by Scotts where it gets sandy.

For me, I think the paddle is beautiful.  I'd just try for the halibut off the beach, troll up to Scotts, and drift back down.  Lots of fun!

Anyone interested in dawn launch at DPort on Sunday and trying this in person with me?   I have a BBQ scheduled Sunday afternoon and I'd be a hero to bring a flatty to the grill!
