Feeling deftly ill -- as far as the boss is concerned -- I decided to take advantage of the beautiful day. No wind and FAC conditions the whole time. Rolled in to Alameda at 10:30 and was pleasantly surprised to see another late-starter, Sharky, rigging up to fish the wall. I decided to troll a flasher and frozen herring with 12 oz of weight. I targeted the 12' contour and followed it out to the south and then slowly back with the current to the north. Newly installed fish finder said the water temperature was 70.9 degrees (note to self: never trust temperature reading again). First hit of the day, a rather strong one for a halibut, happened at high noon right on the edge of a 20' hole at the mouth of the cove, but it came unbuttoned shortly into the fight. Next hit was at 12:30, roughly 200 yds from the naval shipyard entrance, and turned out to be a testy little 23" bastard. I was preparing to send him back when he tangled himself in the net while trying to bite either my leg or his own tale. I was unamused. He exacted his revenge with a nip on my thumb as I was untangling the little bugger. Ingrate! I'm going to especially enjoy the fish tacos tonight. Had to get off the water at 1:30 to avoid a nasty sunburn. I won't forget the suntan lotion again.

Right on.  I almost rolled over there after picking up some BBQ for lunch to see if anyone was out there today.  Wish I had now, it was right around when you called it.

I got mine about an hour after you left. also 23 in. i picked it up about 150 yards from the ramp, right at the corner of the wall, just yards outside of the pier fishermans lines, which i was trying to miss, heading back to the dock. It was kinda like being in a sports arena, with fans screaming at you how to make the plays, followed by cheers as the fish slid into the net. After getting back to land i found those guys had 3 fish on the wall. one of them was 20+lbs!
