If the wind calms down I am going to launch from Brandon Island and head out to the main channel trolling bombers and ac plugs in search for a big mamma striper. AM launch. Will probably have to deal with wind, waves, boats and tides.

Hmmmm...chase the black bass or the linesiders...tough choice.  I'll let you know.  The tide is low mid-day, so maybe a split shift between the two species??  AM stripers, pm largemouth.  Would you be interested in trying Potato/little potatoe sloughs from Tower?  Might be less traffic?  Not sure if the main channel sounds as safe on a weekend.  Perhaps on some weekday I'd try it.

I just got my striper rod rigged for trolling bombers and yozuri's.  Gotta try it soon.  Let me know your thoughts/plans.

I am following the reports of big fish. No Potato Slough for me, its the sac or nothing for stripers.

Well, good luck to you.  As a Newbie yaker, I would not feel safe out there on those busy weekends.  Sometimes I don't even feel safe in Whites Slough, but at least there are small channels to hide in when the skiers come out.

Good luck and post up your reports.

I might get lucky and have a little wind blowing and that will cause chop in the main river and keep those pesky skiiers out of the area.

When I take the boat out skiing we always ski the slough as they were calmer. You've got to be nuts to ski the main river below rio vista. I will post up my report and hopfefully take back the top striper AOTY spot.

I think I miscommunicated my comment regarding skiers...I know they ski on smooth water and are highly unlikely to be on a choppy stretch of the Sacramento.  My concern is for the boat volume in general--the larger faster cruisers and bigger boats/ships, currents (since it is an outgoing tide on a main river channel, I'm assuming the current will be pretty strong), chop, and wind.  I have not fished out there yet, but if you can convince me that it is fairly safe (and the reward of a BIG striper is good to great), I might join you for a few hours in the morning.  You can PM me any details regarding launch, fee, time, and safety.

If not, good luck in your AOTY trophy striper hunt.

Thanks.  Hobieblue.

If I didnt have my son on Saturday Id be out there. I am not afraid of the big water. I have kayaked from Vierras down to the deep water channed in my 10' SIS kayak last October. I'd love to get out there and help you find some big fish.
