We had quite the crew out there today...launching from Ferry Point there was Jay(Fishin-jay), John (Backcountry), Insane Duane, Dave (Relentless?), Scott (GB2), Pat R. and myself (Sandman).  Paddling in from Berkeley were Doug (Marmite) and Alex (alien).  Good to see folks back out on the salt again.

You should know that I'm writing this because the other guys are home cleaning fish and I'm not.  Anyway, live bait rules as can be attested by Duane and Dave.  They made it look easy and I'll let them tell their stories.  Alex caught one on a popsicle and I understand that Jay caught a couple of decent butts.  On the paddle in I caught a Hail Mary butt that measured out to 21" so it went back in to grow up some.

The sun was nice, the water was cold and the wind picked up at about 11:00.  We had to paddle into the wind to get back to the launch and that made it a long hard paddle.

PBs everywhere and then some.  Mix in the sailboats that were racing and some that weren't, it was quite busy today.  Here's a few pics:

Semore Butts.............hehe.  Way to go get em.  Yesterday Rory was trapped in the middle of the sailboat race........it was a little scary to watch.

Fred (Teleni),

They don't call Duane the MasterBaiter for nothing...LOL.

We use throw nets to catch smelt and shiner perch off of docks, piers, estuaries, bridges and in the marshes.  When the bait schools are around you can use sabiki rigs to catch the local bait fish.  When you rig up your yak, follow the posts and we'll show you the ropes.

Thanks Gary, it's pretty hard to bestowed someone with name masterbaiter unless you're a pro. I usually jigged up my bait when I fish out of  my Montauk using sabiki rig. I bought a throw net couple month ago and I would love to use it sometime soon.I got some few ideas how to rig the scupper pro just browsing this site. Hopefully I'll hookup with some of you pro's so you can show me the rope.  I used to be a stud paddler for a hawaiian canoe club for long distance and sprint but walked away from it about 7 yrs ago.  Every once in awhile I'll take the surfski out for a 1-2 hour run out in the bay. Looking forward hooking up with you guys sometime soon.

Thanks Sandman for taking the shot of 23” baby butt.  Or what I like to call A Giant Sanddab. :smt003 IT WAS GOOD EATS!!! It was good to share water with you guys again. And thanks to insaneduane for the hook up and coordinates to the halibut hunting grounds. It was all new water for me and was surprise how shallow the water was for bottom bouncing for the flatties. I had a great time and would like to fish that area again. But next time I would like to use the insaneduane live bait rig! Every time channel 69 was keyed it was news from insaneduane or his partner in crime, Dave telling us the size of the halibut they just boated or released. IT is always Good Fishing with you yakers. Here’s some picks.

Oh! I loved the hundred yard mud trek back to the launch site check out my trail :smt005

Alien, where did you and Marmite launch from?  That mud drag looks like, well, a real drag!  Our launch at the Brickyard was mud-less (but into the wind and against the current on the way back).

Nice butts!  Backcountry
