HONOLULU (KHNL) - The search for a missing kayaker, who was last seen on October 18 near Kapaa Beach on the Big Island, enters day three.

Coast Guard rescue crew began the search Sunday morning for 26-year-old Miguel Serussino, who was last seen wearing multi-colored shorts and a dark blue T-shirt while paddling with relatives.

Crew members are conducting the search by aerial and by patrol boat.  Rescuers with the Hawaii County Fire Department are also assisting on the search, which have covered more than 7,000 square miles, an area almost twice the size of the Big Island.

The search is focused on the Alenuihaha Channel between Maui and the Big Island and the coastline around Kohala, Kawaihae and Upolu Point.

"We haven't had any new information," said Petty Officer 1st Class Jeoffrey Nielsen, a search and rescue controller with the Coast Guard's 24-hour command center in Honolulu.  "We are saturating the area with as many assets as possible and we are working closely with the Navy and Hawaii County Fire Department."

Crews will continue the search through Monday night and into Tuesday morning.  The Coast Guard asks anyone with information on Serussino or sightings of a yellow kayak or paddle in the area of Kapaa Beach near Kawaihae to call (808) 842-2600.
