Awesome report and pics!  For those that know Del Valle:  the first picture looks almost identical to the cove accross from Hetch Hetchy group camp.

what lb test of that line did you try?
I just tied a spro trolling swivel to the end and 3' of florocarbon leader, not worried about abrasion but this line looks tougher than PP. 20lb I think I will try the 15 too

Sounds like the smallie in the river was on it's nest
That's what it seemed like but in the tailout of a rapid? Never seen them nest up so shallow or in fast water.

Mike:

Love  the report!  Good job on the rabbit.

first time I heard one scream I was walking home through NJ woods after sneaking out to my girlfriend's house at age 15.  Like 2am in the snowy winter. I think it was getting hit by an owl.

Freaked me out, sounded like a litle girl getting killed.  I ran home uphill for a mile or so in the snow.

I
ve definetly seen em that shallow in the rivers, and in moving water. I think they prefer slow shallow back waters to nest in, but I have seen em in the main river spawning. As the water continues to warm there will be more nesting. There can be some great top water to be had.
