I was supposed to go to Loch Lomond today (haven't been there for probably four years and was hoping to meet some more NCKA folks).  I got a very late start and figured the wind would've been too much so I headed to Calero instead.  Got my annual launch and parking pass so I can hit Stevens Creek after work easier this summer.

After spending way too much for the passes (man they're gone WAY up...$135 for the combo) I noticed tiny white caps on the water.  Figured too much wind to be worth launching so I wandered around shore tossing various things and eventually stopped to take a break.

Three people in a small boat anchored and started fishing where I'd been wasting time not long before.  One of them picked up a small bass fairly quickly (Hey!  Put my fish back!)

After they left the spot, I went back to it...managed one small bass myself on a watermelon Sep's Pro Scented Grub (probably 3" grub) on a jig head.  My first fish of '08 and enough to not have to drive home smelling like a skunk.

Water temp a couple feet down off the end of one of the boat ramps was just shy of 57 degrees.

This coming week is crazy (way over booked) but next week I'm hoping to be able to hit Stevens Creek after work a couple times. Water temp at Stevens Creek a week or so ago was 56 near the bridge (where it's really shallow) and 54 near the picnic area...

Some guy was shore fishing near the docks and landed a couple nice bass.  He was tossing giant nightcrawlers and said he'd put three bass in the bucket to take home.  I asked if he knew about the mercury problem with the fish there and he said yeah.  Whatever.

The three people in the boat that I saw fishing were tossing wacky rigged dark colored worms...looked like 8 or 10 inch worms maybe.

I tried spinners, kastmasters, powerbait, grubs, worms, lizards, and a couple other things.  Only the Sep's produced for me though I saw nightcrawlers and some long worm work for other folks.  I saw a couple others come and go with nothing to show for it...

Yea, I often see people taking those fish home. That's probably the 3rd worst mercury contaminated lake in California. But they just ignore the warnings. The problem with these people I think is they ate too many marcury tainted fish. The mind is the first to go.  :smt044

Wind has been a problem the last couple of weeks in the South Bay. You really need to anchor up to fish it properly. I was being tossed around pretty good the last time out there:
