Ran into a reliable resource at the coffee shop this morning.
Males are being caught in the north with bloody tails! wahoo!
Also, word on the water is that some hitch have been spotted around the creeks.

Terry sorry to cut in.

A hitch is a bait fish in the lake. Some thing like a large minnow.

The hitch is the native here. It is a big part of this fisheries success and one of the reasons the big swimbait is such a dominate big fish weapon here. I see them around kelsey creek moving in small packs.
With the hitch on the move AND the males making nests we might as well break out the trumpets.

So the bloody tails are from nest-building?

Cool info - thanks.   :smt001
