Shark tracking (and whales, and turtles........)

The link below is to NOAA data from electronically tagged marine life; sharks, mammals and birds. You can click on maps for individual animals and see where they've been. It's pretty cool. These animals travels a long way, especially the turtles.

I wonder what happens when a tiger shark eats a transmitter-bearing turtle.........

   Very cool, NB!  I'm a big fan of tracking, just out of layman curiosity.

I hope they get some tags on some Great Whites in our areas, and various salmon.

There is a tag on a Great White; the one that was in Monterey Bay Aquarium until recently. He's now enjoying Spring Break in Baja............

(that lame joke, and the link, both came from a story in the Chronicle).

What they really should do is tag all white sharks with these things.  Then all we need to do is bring out a smart phone while fishing in the ocean to keep an eye on them.  Better yet, have the shark tracking information integrated into you GPS unit.

I suspect that ignorance is bliss. If you're in the ocean round here, there are Great Whites nearby. All the tracker would do is freak me out even more!
