super stable

I bought a USED Cobra Triple a couple of months ago. I haven't had an opportunity to take it out with the weather/work/family combo. Today I put it in the pool and tried it out. My wife, two daughters and 60 lb dog all sat on it with room to spare.   

With just the dog and me I could stand and move around without even having to be careful. I swung my paddle around 360 degrees as fast as I could and rocked back and forth while standing and didn't even get close to rolling. I see potential for me and the dog to take this thing out on the lakes for a comfortable all dayer. I can get up and stretch and even walk around with all the food drinks and gear I will ever need.   

Yeah, but IF it is just you and the dog, good luck loading that beast.  Hopefully you have a trailer and not an SUV, otherwise I don't envy you.

It goes in the bed of the truck. I've only transported two kayaks at a time so far. I have all my gear on the upper level that I built with plywood and the yaks on the bottom. If I take all three I will have to take out the second level and pile all the yaks together. I want to get a roof rack so I can put one or two on the roof.

Having a stable kayak does have it's advantages - especially when you're always taking someone with you (kids,wife,friends and pets).

But if you plan to use it solo, (IMO) it won't be as fun to paddle around - for obvious reasons. I always advise future paddlers that stability is something you can learn (just like riding a bike). Take an "unstable" kayak out for a few weeks and it won't be an issue anymore.

Becareful though, a kayak meant for 3 paddlers is just what it is for. It would take a very strong paddler to move something that wide and stable. I'm not doubting your strenght or paddling skills but I just want to make sure you can make it back safely, especially if you are covering a lot of water (and factor in the wind or current if you plan to paddle solo on a Cobra Triple)

Allen / Pole Pole used to paddle a Cobra Triple by himself....I'd like to hear his experiences with this particular kayak.

I have a Search 15 for long hauls or bad weather and a Tarpon 130 if I want to go far with the dog. The main purpose for the triple is loading the kids up at campsites. My main intention with me and the dog on the triple would be for fishing on lakes with good weather.

Glad to see that you have a full size truck and won't be car-topping that monster.  Might be a biotch to paddle, but otherwise have to love the stability.  Enjoy!

Took it out on Folsom Lake today. No problem loading or unloading because it went on the bed of the truck. I wouldn't try to put it on the roof by myself. I had a kid, a dog and a bunch of gear with plenty of room left over. It wasn't fast but we crossed the lake quickly because the water level narrowed the lake.

The triple is a BEAST but it is an awesome two guy "tandem"  Papa Bill has slayed the salmon on one, and Pole never had any issues killing fish on it either.

I Threw some lures for a few minutes but I didn't really fish (I had a kid with me). My main goal was to use my new minnow trap and see if we could catch minnows while we paddled around.

I tied the minnow trap to a new crab trap float and threw it out near a rock pile. I moved the trap a couple of times but didn't catch a thing. On the last throw the float took on water and the entire set up went to the bottom. I could see it down below and was able to pull it back up with a treble hook.

Yesterday we went out on Natomas Lake. My friend was in his Quest and my son and his friend were in the Tarpon 130. I was solo in the Triple. I couldn't come close to keeping up. My Search 15 is fast but I wanted to get familiarized with the Triple.
