Lost some major WAF points last night.  The family went out to dinner for the Boy’s 20th birthday.  I ordered the surf and turf at “market prices.”  Well, “market prices” turned out to be 95 freeking dollars!!!   :smt103  To top it off, it was a spiny lobster rather than a Maine lobster, and probably imported  frozen.  Also, they overcooked it and each bite had some shell in it.  Mz. Grizz won’t let me live it down.  I was just making the coffee for tomorrow morning (she usually does that) and she asked if I was making up for last night.

Sorry to hear about that Chuck.  Major bummer.  I bet if you ever order anything that is market price, you'll ask exactly what that price is.

Keep doing the little things and you'll be back to even in no time.  Maybe even send her a small bouquet of flowers at work. :smt007   Of course don't spend too much because you'll just be back at square one.

Good luck champ.

Michael

I would have sent it back and ordered something else. Contact the Restaurant and complain if they want your return business and that of your friends they should send you a comp. I deal with Restaurants everyday and word of mouth is gold to them. Market price for Tenderloin 8oz and Spiny 8oz should be about $50/60 unless it was  super upscale. Was that ala carte? When talking to them ask them if they know what blogs review their meals, and make sure you speak with the owner.

I might add that Restaurant Business is down about 30 to 40% right now and they all are struggling but that is no excuse for a poor meal at outrageous prices.

mickfish,

It was my fault for not asking the price, but I have it regularly at Marcello’s in Danville and it is cooked to perfection and reasonably priced.  Maybe I should have sent it back but we had the Boy with his girlfriend and I didn’t want to mess up his special night.  I’ll tell you what, I’ll never go back to Vic Stuarts in Walnut Creek again.  They were voted one of the top steak houses in the country a few years back and are now living on their laurels.

Where's the pics?!   :smt005 :smt002

Bummer on the surprise pricing for a crappy meal - it'll come back around on them, and hopefully on you too, but positive next time.   :smt001

Maybe so but I would still call the owner and let him know he has a right to defend himself and probably wants to know you were displeased, he might be out of touch and appreciate your concerns. I sure he wants your business, give him a chance to redeem his self. In tough economic times eating out is one of the first things people cut out, he needs you business. If your kayak fell apart I'm sure you would call Hobie or whoever. Make sure and tell him why you didn't want to cause a scene. I guess you can see why my wife is nervous when we dine out. :smt044 I find the best tactic is to show concern for the owners business. Start out I think you should know. Kill them with kindness but be direct. Just one of my Petpeeves can you tell :smt003

Grizz...perhaps some NCKA man-dogs would have been a better choice  :smt002 :smt003 :smt005 It's cheaper and has never failed anyone in the NCKA family :smt002

Was WAF lost for spending too much?  Never thought it would be the case that [WAF] α 1/[$$].
It was a nice gesture to take the family out someplace special for the birthday.  When balanced against such good intentions, any mistake (if you want to even call it that) should result in a wash.  At least your boy's girl will think she's dating the son of a total highroller now!

I NEVER send food back thanks to www.stainedapron.com . I just chock it up to experience and probably don't go back.
At least you had some quality time with the fam.
Plus why go out when dinner at home looks like this??
