I took my new x factor to lake Chabot on Saturday, the water at the launch was greenish with a fair amount of green globby stuff in it, not very encouraging. Once I got out into the lake the water looked better though. Spent the day trolling with no success. I saw a few fish on the FF, and on my way back to the marina a fish jumped right in front of me (taunting, I believe) but that was it. I trolled flat fish, rapalas, spinners and spoons, even threw out a dry fly after that fish jumped at me. Maybe next time.
Got the boat from Humboats a few weeks ago, Hawk was kind enough to install FF, extra rod holder etc for me. I'm very happy with it so far. This slow day gave me a chance to fool with the FF and GPS and figure out how to use them.
I saw no other kayakers. I did get inspected by EBMUD for quagga mussels, it was no hassle since I was the only boat launching at the time.

thanks for the report Mike.  It's always good when someone details the water's clarity.  I heard somewhere that the jointed rapala fire tiger was a decent lure this time of year.  Not sure where I heard it though.  JTF..

sounds like a fantastic day of paddling a new ride and being on the water. the days of just spending time getting to know your boat are underrated.
