My dad and I checked out linda mar, but it looked like a rough launch and we didn't see any boats or birds in the bay, so we moved down to pescadero.  The launch there was very easy compared to linda mar, but the fishing was pretty lame for this spot.  I caught a small ling and my dad caught a croaker, which I suggested he use for bait - producing a barely legal (But stocky) ling.

Most of the time my dad was puking, he's the worst seasick person I've ever seen.  Rather than puke overboard he used a half gatorade bottle that was meant to bail the cockpit if water got into it.  That kind of amplified the noise, but I managed to stay feelin' alright despite that and the 4-5ft swells.  I was able to get him to leave the croaker on the bottom with the rod in the holder and that did the trick.

We didn't paddle very far, the FF was on the drifter, which my dad was in because it's better for bigger guys.  Reading the FF is kind of a subjective thing and he was too sick to paddle around watching it to learn how to read the bottom.  I think next time I'm having him use the tandem because I didn't like being denied FF recon info...

I threw the croaker in with the salted chovies at the end of the day.  Maybe he'll the the hot bait next weekend too!

I feel bad for your dad.  Seasickness sucks!

Is that the best way to cure your "day old" bait?

I threw about a quarter cup of salt in the baggie with only about 12 anchovies.  I'm under the impression that preserves them fairly well, but they're slated for tipping rockfish jigs, not salmon.  Should be plenty of salt left to go to work on the croaker.

I used to cure my fish bait with rocksalt. But now that I "mooch" for bait from my fellow kayak fishing partners.....I haven't done it since  :smt003

An old timer Filipino friend of mine told me: once your left over / frozen bait dries out, put in a tupper wear container and throw some rock salt in it. Cover it and shake - to mix the rock salt evenly. And then leave it in the fridge. Check it every now and then, make sure to drain anymore left over fish juice once you have it sitting in the fridge.

oh....and make sure you label the tupper wear "not for human consumption"....or you may loose some WAF or GAF....especially if your wife (or girlfriend) is Asian  :smt003
