Hello everyone.  :smt006   I'm new to this.   Hope you don't mind a posting from an inflatable boater.

Went to Linda Mar on Saturday.   Started a bit late at 11:00.
Joel and another kayaker just came in with a nice size striped bass.  32 inches and 12 lbs.  The sea was flat as a lake and has a beautiful blue-green color .

I launch off the beach and went out little beyond the breakers.  Put on my fishfinder and metered bait from 7 feet to the bottom.  Pelicans were diving to my left and right.   I jigged for bait (and caught a whole bunch of good size sardines and anchovies) while I live baited my other pole and let the line go to the bottom.   Joel and his friend paddled by me, exchanged greetings and fished just beyond the surf.

Soon after they passed by me and just as I pulled up my jig with sardines, my other pole went on jerking.  I grabbed it and started reeling and could feel the weight on the line.  I called to Joel, fish on!!  The fished pulled my line toward the breakers, then turned around and made a circle around my boat and under my boat and headed toward my anchor line.    Luckily it didn't get tangled with the anchor line.  The fish came up and I could see it's a beautiful big striped bass.   :smt005   Joel came and netted the fish for me (Thanks); Yeah!!  I passed him the club and he gave it a few wacks on the head.   I measured it later;  28 inches and about 8 lbs.

Afterwards, I jigged for some more bait and decided to go to the reefs for some rockfish.  There I caught my limit of rockfish (amazing what variety of rockfish there is over that reef) and a 28 inch lingcod.  It regurgitated a 1 foot long octopus after I got it aboard the boat.

Quite a few other kayakers and skiffs were out this day.   What a beautiful day and very good fishing.   :smt001

Now how do I upload pictures on here?

Hey Gordon - congrats on your catch!  :smt023  Welcome to the board!!!

Also thanks for sharing your live bait with me - unfortunately, the live bait fell to a 30 inch shark  :smt013 ......but it did give me one hell of a fight!!!

So here are some photos from my day's catch on Saturday 7-9 at Linda Del Mar.  The variety of rockfish I've caught on that day off the reef there is amazing.  Beautiful day and very good fishing.

Linda Del Mar 7-9-05 I'm with 28" ( 8 lbs) striped bass and lingcod

Notice the variety of rockfish caught.

No. I didn't catch this.  Just thought you might want to see a Catfish from SE Asia river; Amazing how big catfish can grow.
