I lost my drift anchor!

A guide on the Smith lost his boat and life last winter due to his anchor accidently deploying in fast, deep water. I don't put the anchor out unless I can see the bottom and/or the flow is real mellow. Knowing what the bottom is like helps too. I also don't keep a knot in the end of the rope anymore. Sh#t happens real quick.

My new anchor is 7#'s. It doesn't seem too heavy for my yak, and works just fine on the Russian.
