Anyone have any CC herring reports? Hoping to get up there "if" they show this weekend.

I can't speak for CC, but the herring run up north in Yaquina Bay has been pretty slow compared to past years. The Yaquina run is usually 2-3 weeks behind the CC run. There are fish here now, but nowhere near the numbers we usually see by mid-March.

I worked hard to score 58 last Friday, then 74 on Saturday. Most boats near me had single digits or zero.

Ahh. Thank you for that report Clayman. It seems to have been a lackluster spawn this year. I’ve been waiting vigilantly but it seems they never really showed in CC unless I’m mistaken.

Don’t like it for those predatory marine species that rely on them.

A giant mass of herring invaded Yaquina Bay yesterday. After hearing the reports of morning catches, I ran down to South Beach Marina and fished off the back of a buddy's moored boat and caught 147 within 90 minutes. Everyone was catching. Roughly half of the herring I caught were post-spawn, with the pilings covered in herring eggs. Run might not last long given how quickly they're spawning.

I've been keeping tabs on the yearly herring arrival in CC. I try to do a drive-by daily. I've never seen so many sea lions waiting for their meals.

My son said that he heard they were just outside the harbor last week. Everyone was hoping that they would come in.

So far, they've not entered the harbor. Dunno. Maybe they heard of all the sealions. According to my records they were here Feb. 20 in 2020 and Feb. 27 in 2024.
