LJ experienced an unusually thick float of squid last week. The squirts fired up the homeguard yellows. Many fish were caught, some up to the 45-50-lb range. By the weekend the word was out. Sunday found a fleet of 20-25 boats and a larger number of kayaks out on the spot. The pressure turned the bite into a pick. No love for me (that happens when you can't hit the bite early). I did catch this photo of Randy Janush of Candy Catchers squid jigs. That was his first solid kayak fish. It went 33 lbs and no doubt made the long drive back to Ventura pass quickly.

Yeah guys, I'm in no better shape than you. I watched this bite from long distance waiting for my chance. A day late ultimately. Next time I'm phoning in sick. I got the YT fever.

I don't normally post these out of area reports - this one was extraordinary for the sheer bulk of the squid and the incredible size of the fish. It was special.
