I still haven't completely settled here, and only fished a little. Winter steelhead is in full swing on the Clearwater river with some slugs being caught daily. But that is a 5 hour drive from me, and I have only been once and got skunked. Starting in April the run on the Salmon river picks up, and we will be doing some "sight " fishing on the south fork. If any of you want to make a road trip this is a great experience, we will rent cabins in Stanley that cost us $60.00 a night and try to fish most every weekend in April. If you do decide to come, watch the fish count online at the Sawtooth fish hatchery and the Pahsimeroi fish hatchery.
I have not ventured down any of these river in my yak yet, but right now they are Class IV and Class V with the high water, not a good combo for my 14' tarpon. If anyone is interested just send me a PM and I can give you more details. Man I miss the ocean, and my fishing buddies...... :smt090

Skyboy.......

......yeah, my sympathy.....job-changes will do that to a guy.

But you're not anywhere near as badly off as I was when my job took me to Dallas, TX for TWO YEARS...!!!....

And then there's that old saw:   "When in Rome, do as Romans do..."....

Consider whether you might want to get a sit-inside kayak, learn the e-roll, and take advantage of some of that really fab. Idaho whitewater.

Remember, you CAN fish from a decked boat.    I do ... all the time.

Enjoy yourself

Judd, thanks for the encouragement, and I do believe Dallas would not work for me.....(no offence Bill...... :smt003), I have looked into the whitewater thing, but I seem to have lost some of my nerve, seems to dangerous....a sentence I never expected to come out of my mouth...lol. I am sure when the snow is gone, I will be better off....

Skyboy,

You can fish the Boise River through town when it is open. There are also a couple of reserviors nearby and then there is those little creeks isolated in the desert. Is it cold up there right now?

Hey Skyboy.  I know you miss your bros and the ocean, but we don't have the hunting opportunities that you have right in your own backyard.

Joe-

Good to see your still out there. I hope you and the family are doing well. 5 hours is a bit of a drive for some fish. But, you gotta do what you gotta do. Melissa got her first sturgeon last week off a yak. It was pretty incredible. Other than that, the duck hunting has been okay and the fishing has just started to kick off. Anyways, hang in there and we'll be in touch.

Thanks guys, bringin tears to my eyes :smt010, Splash, I know the spots, and yes its cold, just not the same without you guys. Chuck, Mooch, Freddie, Stu, Lonny, you guys know you have to make the journey sooner or later....lol, or Ill come get you. The hunting if off the hook up here, no pun intended, and so is alot of the fishing, but I doubt I will get the same feeling as the sea rocking me up and down, back and forth and fighting a 40" ling on the other end that has just eaten my 12" rockfish, and having Freddie screaming at me to quit F@$#@n with that thing and get it in the boat....... :smt005. I am making my lost trip to Alaska twice this year. I am going up in March and believe it or not Driving with my Guide buddy that was crazy enough to buy his truck here, now we have to drive it back...... :smt003, and then I have to return in August for the trip I missed last year. If you guys to plan on coming, let me know we have plenty of room. Here is my new cell:

Ed,

That looks like the stretch under the bridge in Lewiston, I fish mostly in Orofino, and some stretches south of Kamiah for the CW, I also fish the the salmon in tons fo stretches.  Nice looking fish typical of the water up here. I love the color in them, and it always suprises me how good the fist look after that long journey through 3 to 4 dam systems. Thanks for the pics, call me when you come up again, that would be a stretch I would do in a Kayak.
