One of the simple joys of my current job is feeding our HUMOUNGUS salt water fish tank (we also have a koi pond at the entrance of the shop). Anyway, my co-workers and I were pleasantly surprised to find out that a pair of our Clown Fish had laid a cluster of eggs. A sign of a well-kept tank. THe tank is as old as the store itself (about 2 1/2 years old) and this is the first "Proud Parents" of the tank  :smt002

Here's a pic: note the orange stuff (the eggs) on the bottom right of the pic. And of course, the two proud and protective parents hovering around the nest :smt001

on a side note: there is a fish on the tank that I have named "Hoover" because of it's annoying ability to suck ALL the brine shrimp during feeding time- thus leaving the rest of the fish community with little to eat :smt013 :smt011 (it's also the biggest fish on the tank  about 5 inches long with a long snout) I plan to kill  :smt077  this little bastard with a fork when the boss goes on vacation (joke).......or perhaps hire Fuzz to spear it   :smt063  for me..... I'm sure he'd do it for a can of  :spam1:

Thanks Mooch.  Clown fish have the best personalities of any fish in the aquarium, in my opinion.  When I had mine, they would attack my wedding ring when I cleaned the inside of the glass.  I broke down my tank about a year ago and gave them away to a friend, but I have visitation rights.  Let us know if the eggs hatch and if any of the young survive

Sweet!

I have two FW tanks. One is a 60 gallon and one is a 20 gallon.

They're both cycling right now and the 60 gallon is almost ready. It just has six Tiger Barbs in there now, but when it is done cycling I am going to get one or two silver gars, one or two redtail barracuda, and an ornate bichir.

My 20 gallon tank is a tanganyikan cichlid tank. It only has a cylindricus and a calvus for now, but when it's done cycling I am going to add a few more of the smaller tanganyikan cichlids.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Should've named it "Mooch Jr."

A buddy of mine years ago started a SW tank.  He purchased a few "Live rocks"  set up the water, did whatever was needed at the time, (he was not new to aquariums, had thenm in the past) and when the water was right, he added the live rocks.  It wasn't long befoe he had a few little shrimp scurryin around then a few of those slimy things with lots of tenacales, they were tiny, but they grew.  He had the tank for about a year as I recall.  Couldnt name the fish he had to save my life though.
Something happened, and the tank died off.  He was a little upset as it was kind of costly.  I don't remember what the cause was (if he told me)
Me, I could never do a SW tank! I can not phathom touching those tencacle things Ewwww  Not even with gloves!   Like a slug with tenacles yuk....
I can only think that to have a tank go that long takes a lot of work.
I hope " Hoover" doesn't find the younge'ns!

I'm GONNA KILL Hoover....even though there is no concrete CSI data saying he's not the culprit, he's gonna die. :smt077

It's a sad day at work today :smt009

Mooch, methinks this Hoover fish needs to have an unfortunate untimely accident.   Let me know.   I know people.  :smt002

I have a 20 gallon FW tank full of native crayfish.   I just love watching the little guys.  When they get big I love them even more; with butter, garlic, lemon, soy and wasabe.  :smt007  -Matt

Matt - I'll be crawdad hunting soon - it would be nice to have a few in our pond in front of the store. There's already a few small koi in there....they look board and need some playmates :smt002

....could not kill Hoover....co-worker took the fork out of my hand and told me to brrreeeaath. Feel better now...the hate is gone. Perhaps some other day :smt002

Hey mooch,

Don't worry bout the eggs chances are the clowns ate them, and there was no way they would have survived anyway cause there so small when they hatch its close impossible to raise them unless you grow phyto plankton on a mass scale and set up there own tank feed them several times a day and then change water daily, not worth the effort! :smt002

Hey Joel,

Better do some compatibility research before you go mixing crayfish with your koi pond.   We had a Australian cray with our goldfish and other tropical fish, and the fish disappeared one by one and the cray just got bigger and bigger...   Hmmm... Coinsidence?  Remind you of Hoover fish?   Maybe put Hoover alone in his own tank with a big honkin' crayfish and see who wins?  :smt002   -Matt

Mooch,

Occasionally chum with some quarter inch sized chunk of shrimp to get Hoover used to them.  Then one day, the shrimp chunk goes on a small trout hook.  That’s how I caught some coral eaters in my tank.  When you catch him, he can go on a zip lock with aquarium water and back to the aquarium store, or, he could make a nice wall plaque. :smt005

Mooch;  Why don't you just quarantine Hoover in his or her own comfy little tank? You can advertise the dreaded little killer fish for Aquan Sports.  That could bring some curious customers...   Happy New Year,    -Matt
