So the shank is a threader?  You shove it through the mouth and out the gills, pulling the line out and stringing the fish on the line?  Then what?  Is the shank locked in the clip somehow? Left to dangle?

yes the shank is a threader, i go through the eyes and when this is mounted on the kayak or float board i just let it dangle or flip it all on top so seals cant eat them. on a weight belt i have a d-ring on one end and a stainless loop on the other where i clip the stringer onto it. when i get a fish i pull the shank out oft he d-ring and string the fish through the eyes and then stick the shank back through the d-ring. it can all be ditched in an emergency with the belt.

i prefer stringing fish through the eyes because its a smaller hole than the gills so there is s smaller chance the shank will fall through and lose the fish. the shank is also drilled right in the middle so its balanced and does make the shank parallel to the stringer line allowing for the fish to pop loose.

i know this can all be done in an easier manner probably but being able to use this stringer pretty much anywhere was what i wanted to make and for the longest time i was stringing fish on my float line and shooting line. that got really annoying fast. of the two i preferred stringing to the float line.

just for a visual, here is how i wear the stringer on my weight belt. i'd rather have it this way then wrapped around me. that way i can ditch everything in an emergency. to me it beats having to be close to my float the whole time. i dont string a whole stringer full of fish, on a good day i might get 5 or so and i unload them on my float or kayak after getting a couple so i dont drag around a bunch of fish everywhere.
