Yes, at least from vessels in the zone that includes Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel.  You can still fish from shore.
Yesterday I thought of going out today just because it was the last day, but when the weatherman said it was going to be cold, I decided to start the closure a day early.  Check the D of F G web site if you need more details.

Plenty of freshwater opportunities in the bay area. Don't stop fishing just cause rockfish season is over.

I think that would be like the end of the world.  I would have to move away from NorCal...LOL

To specify even beyond FF's comment, the Rockfish or RCG complex season is over as of today november 30.  So, no rockfish, lings, cabezone or greenlings till next May probably.  Other saltwater species are stil open including halibut, flouner, sand dab, striper sturgeon, surf perch, etc.

And don't forget Mooch's favorite piscine target - the elusive kingfish of Santa Cruz

When you park your kayak on a river bar and hike up some no name creek and start landing rainbows on spinnerbaits, you'll realize year round fishing and how the small water skills keep you sharp until the next opening.
