I'm wimping out. Forecast calls for 16mph winds. Don't think I want to make the drive for crappy windy conditions. Best of luck to anybody braving the weather.

It's the last day I will have off for fishing for a while, so I think I will brave the windy conditions.  Plus I have some left over minnows.  Chalk it up to me being a newbie and not knowing what I am getting into.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Let us know how many minnows you had alive when you reached DV - if any, and how you kept them alive.

I won't bore you with the details, but I got called into work this morning just as I was leaving for Del Valle--very disappointing.

I had 15 jumbo minnows (I would actually call them shiners if I were back in Georgia) left over when I left Quarry Lakes yesterday.  While I was fishing I frequently replaced the water in my minnow bucket with lake water.  When I left the lake, I transferred the shiners into a 48-quart cooler and filled it to the brim with lake water.  This morning when I got up, all 15 shiners were still alive and healthy.  None were gasping at the surface of the water or floating upside down.  Before having to go into work, I scooped a gallon of water out of the cooler and poured it back in from several feet above the surface to facilitate oxygenation.  I repeated this a half dozen times and then went to work.  When I got home this evening at 1800, all 15 were still alive and happy (unlike myself) with no surface gasping.  I think the key is keeping the water oxygenated.

Agreed!

Bummer on having to go into work - that blows!

The real question is where did buy them? The only place that i know ( Sportman center - castro valley) had them seem to close down! :smt010  :smt010

I picked up two dozen at Ly's per Marmite's suggestion.  They were $11.95/dozen or something close to that.  Buying two dozen turned out to be a little presumptuous and optimistic!!
