I know it's a long haul from Pacifica, but some of us are hitting Del Valle on Saturday.  Might want to consider coming to join us.

Jfish,

Unless you have experience throwing a fly, I suggest you practice while standing on grass before you try fly casting while sitting in a kayak.  It’s not like casting with a spinning rod, there is an art to it.  Good luck!

WORD!!!  I have sparingly thrown a fly for the last 4-5 years but won't even consider doing it from my yak because it would be holy hell.  I've even taken lessons and I'm still terrible.  Practice, practice, practice.

Jfish, I would agree with Grizz to work it on solid ground first and find your comfort level before you do it on your yak. And, just like what dilbeck said, practice (3X). It's a little intimidating to throw on a yak due to low-profile orientation (90% of the time fly touches the water on your back-cast) but you'll get used to it. It's a lot of fun! However, if you have your standard trolling gear with you as a backup, you'll be fine. Try white woolies and don't forget to bring other colors too. Good luck and enjoy your new fly gear.

Jason -

It is good to keep your for-deck clear and wear a full brimmed hat and glasses to protect yourself. Good luck. There is an outside chance I will see you there. I need a break from fishing but... :smt005
