I say: It's time to think-outside-the-box.

Ahem....Ahem....(tapping on the microphone)...
Do I have all-you's attention here?

Now, is a fish slick?
You bet a fish is slick.
And why?
Mucous.

OK now, is a worm slick?
You bet a worm is slick.
And why?
Mucous.

OK....so far so good....
Now therefore, when a fish chomps down on another fish or worm, what's the sensation it's most likely to expect?
Yeah....."real" prey.....are definitely "real" if they are coated all over with MUCOUS.

Now what lesson does this hold for, you know, us-guys...we members of NCKA?
Well.....PERHAPS that we should all make our baits have that slicky-mucosy feel.

Now, how we 'goin to do that?
(see picture)

Yu'see.....because that's what that stuff IS....
What comes in them tubes is, well, just the manufactured-form of...mucous...

Elsewhere on this website there is (or was) a discussion of the relative merits of "scent."
I read all the posts to that "scent" discussion and was amazed at the level of straight-forward decorum maintained.

OK, so this-here is a discussion of "mucous"
I expect that you-all will maintain the same level of, well, decorum...

Up for consideration is whether this may be the "cure" to the "spit-out" factor that applies to the plastic artificials.
Yu'know....???......

So......
How'dya like them apples?

Jfish, funny you should mention that!  WAY back when I was a kid, Me & pops went to Pardee (I think it was) Pops & I were fishing with one of his long time friends, and he told me to spit on the hook & bait to catch fish!  Now, like I mentioned I was a kid and my parents always told me never to spit, so here was this old man telling to spit.  I was in kid heaven, got the ok from pops and I slimed my hook!
I remember catching a fish on my first cast!  Don't so it now, (actually forgot about this till now)

seriously, what about using a strip down the side of soft baits (even hard baits like plugs) like they put on disposable razors? (patent pending for future reference  :smt001 )  It could be flavored with scents and would provide for all of the characteristics of natural prey without that irritating need to re-apply  :smt002 :smt002

If a fish missed the first hook set, it might even get a bit of the tasty material adhered to the teeth and come back to finish the job...

I like it, Judd.  Makes good sense.  I wondered why my dad would sometimes spit on the chovie before he slid it overboard for a salmon troll...  I don't even know that he knew...   :smt001

As far as the "personal lubricant", not to be too personal, but I only get that out when it's absolutely necessary!   :smt003  So that'll be my M.O. for fishing too!   :smt002
