I'll publicly acknowledge that I was wrong about the Adventures ability in conditions that I personally find to be entertaining.

I was with PAL and Chef in RIDICULOUS conditions at Colonet an PALs Adventure was the MAN in headwinds on top of 9-12 foot seas.  We could barely hang on to our paddles at times.

That said the absolute lack of rocker had it spearing steep swells and its stern also sunk out as they rolled by.  It took on a LOT of water, and PAL was pumping every 45 minutes.

I'll put up my 100 bucks as reward to the winner if anyone wants to step-up with their hobie to race scott thornley. i'll leave the conditions, distance and location up to the competitors and the people of ncka. it sorta sounds like scottthornley might setting himself up for a home court advantage.

Jeepers, what part of "It's not a race" do you not understand? As I said, if Chuck completes the course, I'll concede the point.

As for home court advantage, well this is very near where Chuck lives, and is a very common trip. Heck, I've done a night time group trip out to the sunken ship on Halloween one year. It's not some  extremo-Tsunami Ranger-Force 10-sea cave-epic paddle. The conditions are just plain fun in a normal kayak, but I'm pretty sure that it will be an eye opener for the Adventure true-believers. But I could be wrong, maybe the Adventure will lap it up like mothers milk.

Regards,
Scott

A few years back I was testing boats with a outfitter and a few friends. The mirage system wasnt very old and I think that the outback was the lastest model released at that time.  It didnt take us long to put the outback to the speed test vs a real kayak.   I was in the WS riot (kind of a real kayak) and my friend Moto, who is of similiar skill/atheletic ability, was in the outback. We raced all out for about 80 yards and the riot was victorious by a boat length, but the interesting part was that I was on the verge of vomiting and moto was still giggling as he continued around the lake.  Not really 2 boats that are applicable to the thread but I thought it was interesting paddle vs pedal story.
Im also in favor of some "speed testing" amongst the NCKA. Always up for the opportunity to show that I am the fastest plastic on the water.

We should do a race....maybe on the next NCKA get-together  :smt045

Among the "paddlers" I would put my money on Dave....I've fished with him enough and what really impressed me the most was when Bill and I were paddling back into the jaws of Moss Landing (salmon run) and it was an outgoing tide. The tide was moving so fast that the green can was pointing out to sea  :smt118 Bill and I were making our way in and Dave comes from behind and CASUALLY paddles without showing any effort  :smt013 It just seemed like his P15 was cutting though the tide like it a hot knife on butter......simply amazing  :worship

Haven't kayaked much with Thornley and Terry, but I'm sure they can hold their own.

I think to be fair, we should have races divided among the P15, T160's and the Adventure.

Amphibian, sorry for the threadjack  :smt011
