My wife and I are going to be bumming around for a few days middle of August after a family gathering in Marin, and I was hoping to find a day of kayak fishing. We haven't even decided whether to drive north or south from the Bay area. Any tips? I'm a very experienced paddler, whitewater and salt fishing. I was really disappointed a few years ago visiting the Kenai in AK that I couldn't find a kayak guide. Took a boring halibut 6-pack trip. Hopefully this time will work out better!

If you don’t mind driving, Monterey Bay Kayaks rents kayaks you can fish from and even has guides too
Good luck

Eric Stockwell is a great guide, and I believe he can outfit you with everything you need for a fun day catching fish. He primarily guides at Shelter Cove which would be about a 3hr40min drive from Marin. My son and friends of ours went out with him on Thursday, and caught halibut, lingcod, mixed rock fish, and sharks.

If you are experienced with your own kayaks, I would recommend Albion river campground. No guides that i know of but great fishing and scenery. You can paddle up the river for some beautiful scenery as well. I believe they have kayaks for rent but not sure if they are set up for fishing. Good idea to check swell reports for the area.

Is a bit of a drive from your area though.

Bumping this, we're going to be there again in early August, but staying near Marin this time. Any new suggestions? Someone linked me to kayakfishing.com's guiding service, but something seems off to me about a guide with that domain! I guess I'll contact them.

If you’re set on staying in the Marin/Sonoma counties area there’s Kyle Monte , Kayle@kayakfishingsonoma or something like that

I fished with Kyle back when I first started 2013-14 . Not as a client, but at a few fish n chills , probably before or around the time he started guiding.  Doubt he would remember, Super nice guy .
