Crab season closes soon. I want one more crab meal without paying too much for previously frozen stuff from who knows where. Is HMB my best shot? I've never been to Tomales Bay. Are box traps OK or still just hoop net/conical nets? I used the last of my bait today at Santa Cruz wharf with the kids. It was a blast, but I didn't catch bait like I thought I would. What the best bait from Trader Joe's? Chicken?

TIA!

I'm a little sorry I didn't do a last try yesterday/today in tomales. It's a grind this time of year but I'm sure I could have gotten some.

Won't get a chance now since I'll be headed out of town for the next week.

Hope you get some if you try.

2 weeks ago dropped my ambush rings on my way out to the reefs in what are often productive spots and only got shorts. Even the rock crab were small.

A buddy and I went out last Monday to nice looking conditions on the water.  Six sets of rings netted one decent keeper from our usual drop spots, although we spent more time on the reefs than tending the rings.  Not much in the way of juvenile crabs either which was a bit of a surprise.

Good luck if you go tomorrow.

Priorities.

I remember when my dishwasher acted up....no fishing for me that day.

Crabbing is work.
