Good morning, folks,

I launched from Coast Guard Pier yesterday at first light.  The water stayed flat and the wind stayed light all day, but the water clarity was terrible.  It was so dark that I could not see my tackle once they got about 1 1/2 to three feet down.

I started near the red buoy looking for squid, but I only picked up a couple of stragglers.  After that, I moved into deeper water, around 180-220 fow, to try for some sand dabs.  My buddy picked up a couple dabs pretty quickly, but I could not get on any.

Rockfishing was not much better.  I hooked one nice brown, then went hours without another bite.  I also brought up a decent copper, and that was about it.

I stayed on the water for almost eight hours, which is a blessing in itself.  I cannot be too upset, especially since my last two trips produced some quality fish.  Looking forward to the next one.

Lastly, there was a big fleet of boats launching yesterday, and I could not help but notice that most of the boaters I ran into had a rough attitude.  In contrast, every kayaker I talked to was nothing but pleasant.

Until next time,
Phil

Thank for the report Phil. Sorry to hear about your encounter with the boaters but glad you got out to do some fishing.

I fished from 8:30-2:30 in Monterey. It was also super unproductive fishing for myself. Even with a handful of snack sized mackerel. I kept snagging these alien like jelly eggs sacks while trying to halibut fish the sand. The few lings I fought must’ve just been hitch hiking, considering I wasn’t able to take any home. Peddled from mbk to the red can then north towards Tioga rd. Even with the day of lack luster fishing, I enjoyed the glassy condition for Memorial Day.  :smt004
Tight lines n’ good vibes

Sounds like you were snagging squid eggs.
