FAIL!

Goal: My first halibut

The early launch was super easy -- very small waves coming in. Conditions further out were amazing -- calmest day I've ever been on the ocean. We never get days like this on the Mendocino Coast. Surprising that NoWhereMan posted on another thread that SC was a washing machine -- the point and direction of swell must have really blocked that action today, thankfully.

Tried 25-48', hoochies, flashers, swimbait, squid, but nothing.

Tried a sabiki and just caught croakers and a 17" mackerel, which I don't care for and released.

I was the only kayaker but there were 3 or 4 other boats and nobody caught any halibut.

Landing was super easy.

Just peddled out to the buoy and then sorta all over the place without knowing the area -- maybe that was the problem.

Next time!

James

There was a short period swell out of NW which was the issue on the west side—or more likely, I’m just a wimp…

Sorry that the halibut did not show, but from the radio chatter, it sounded like the bite was terrible for everything everywhere.
