Hey everyone,

I graduated law school on Monday, so I celebrated yesterday by fishing out of Coast Guard Pier in Monterey.  I was out there from about 7 a.m. to noon, and the swell and wind stayed pretty consistent the whole time.

I was fishing my new Shimano Talavera with an Abu Garcia Max 5 baitcaster, which I’m using primarily for jigging.  I’ve never jigged before, so it was cool to have some success.

I broke the skunk within the first 20 minutes with a nice black rockfish.  Throughout the day, I also brought up a couple verms and a copper.  Later on, I switched to a darker jig, and on the first drop, I caught the ling in the photo.  Also, there was no bait around--at least that I could find lol.

The weather this upcoming weekend looks rough, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get back out.  I guess that just means more time studying for the bar.  I rely on Windy.com & Windy.app for the weather, but I'd appreciate any suggestions if there is something better out there!

-Phil

Congrats!  These white collar professions aren’t what they used to be, wishing you good luck and fortune on the bar and future years of practice.

Best of all, sharks will now lv you alone out of professional courtesy.
