With the nice weather, I figured I'd hit up Tomales to try for some March Dungeness. Launched around 7:30, set 3 hoop nets just south of Hog Island. Plenty of undersized crabs, but keepers were a bit more elusive. Ended the day with 4 crabs(1 gauge buster), after 4 hours of crabbing but 2 of the crabs had a disagreement on the way back to the launch and one smashed a hole in the shell of the other, so only 3 crabs came home. Couldn't have asked for better weather, if anything it was probably a bit hot. Smelt were everywhere, saw some huge schools on the fish finder. Water temps about 57. No other kayak fisherman out, but there were 3 boats who dropped some nets as well, no idea how they did.

Thanks for the report!
I’ve definitely had that problem with crabs fighting.
I’ve found it helps to put them in wet gunny sacks on top of ice packs.
Helps them “chill out”.

Water temps are higher than I predicted, possible early halibut season signifier once temps bounce to 60?

Thanks for a great report.
