I finally located the leak which has been plaguing my Revo the last few trips. It's the classic non-vantage seat peg cracking issue. I'm hoping to get some input from folks who have repaired this or similar hull cracks to get the best chance of a first-time right repair job.

I did some research here and on the Hobie forums. I see most folks recommend using a 3/4" PVC cap and an adhesive to reinforce this area on the hull. For the adhesive, I saw 3M DP8010, Loctite 3035, and marine goop all recommended.

My major concern at this point is the crack continuing to propagate due to the high stresses at this area. Fortunately, I caught the cracks before they got outside of the peg hole itself, but I'm a little worried because the top of the crack is above where a 3/4" cap will reinforce. I drilled out both ends of the crack to minimize stress concentration and allow good adhesive penetration. I worry that is too stretchy to reinforce the hull and prevent the crack from growing. I ordered the Loktite 3035 epoxy. My plan is to apply this with the 3/4" PVC cap.

For the folks on here, do you think this is enough to be a reliable fix? Would you use the cap or a longer connector cut at an angle to follow the geometry of the hull at the seat? I'm thinking the longer connector could be good to get more reinforcement at the top of the crack, but it doesn't have any bottom so it may not reinforce that section as well.

After the repair, would you still use the peg holes, or just switch to an anti-slip mat under the seat going forward to avoid stressing this area further? I'll definitely be more careful on how tightly I screw in the seat peg wedges going forward.

I've never had this problem, but from what I recall seeing on the Hobie forum, the PVC repair that you mention seems to hold up well.

I've always had good luck with Goop sticking to the kayak (sand and then clean with rubbing alcohol), but if I was going to use epoxy, I think I'd go with G/flex...

Thanks for your input! Ended up making an 'extended' 3/4" cap to fit the shape of the inside of the hull better. It won't win any beauty competitions but I can see the white PVC behind the end of the crack.

The glue penetrates all the way through the crack to the peg side. I'll let it set for a day or two before I check it more. As long as the glue was thick enough to mostly stay in place I'm hopeful it will hold well.

If the epoxy poured out from being too thin, I should have used Goop

My old Revo 13 had this problem. The official Hobie repair kit for this problem was exactly that pvc piece only. I think I used Goop. Epoxy would work too, but I preferred Goop because it has a little bit of give. Just make sure to sand the mating surfaces before apply glue. I switched to a newer model that have the lawn-chair, so I don't know how well the fix held up.
