I've been fishing and crabbing this area for over 20 years and haven't seen one of these in Bodega.  Anyone ever catch one this far up North?

Maybe soon we no longer need to travel to Southern CA to catch lobsters.

Maybe worth a nighttime trip when the season is open.

I'm not sure. Probably.  You need a card for almost everything now.  Not sure if we can even keep them up here,  but the season is from October to March I believe.

wow, looks like a nice one too, I wonder if it moved up with the blob of warm water?

CDFW seem to have you in minde:
If I'm fishing for crab from a public pier and I'm NOT fishing for spiny lobster, do I still need a lobster report card?
You do not need to purchase a Spiny Lobster Report Card if you are not fishing for lobster. By the same token, if you catch spiny lobster while fishing for rock crab, you cannot keep spiny lobster if you do not have a Spiny Lobster Report Card in your possession.

as for their range, they are farther north than we might think:
Habitat and Range
California spiny lobsters are found along the Pacific coast of North America, ranging from Monterey Bay, California to Baja California, Mexico. They are rarely seen north of Point Conception due to colder water temperatures. These lobsters prefer rocky reef habitats and are often found in kelp forests and surfgrass beds at depths up to 65 meters.

The top locations for catch;
Catalina Island (14.9%)
San Diego Bay (9.2%)
Long Beach/Middle Breakwater (7.1%)
Point Vicente up to King Harbor (6.8%)
Santa Cruz Island (3.7%)
Zuniga Jetty (3.2%)
Dana Point Jetties (3.0%)
Santa Monica up to Malibu Point (2.8%)
LA County to San Pedro (2.7%)
King Harbor up to Santa Monica (2.6%)

I looked at an old lobster card I have, the furthest north reporting area shows Santa Barbara county - and I have heard of folks having good success there.  #92 is SLC County (maybe its' Santa Barbara county line north?) line to Oregon coast.  Unfortunately I can't find the full paredo of catches per zone, just the top 10 - which covers 56% of the catch.  Need to hit Catalina island one of these days.
