My 13yo Ocean Kayak Trident 4.7 is leaking lots of water in the hull. Two trips in a row, I came back with 5-10 gallons in the hull, needing to be drained. I can't find the leak but I've been preparing to replace it for a year anyway. I think I want to go hands-free with either power drive like the Sportsman Autopilot 136, or an ePDL+ (power and pedal) like the Sportsman Bigwater 132 EPDL. I need an open-ocean kayak, good for all we do, crab, fish, troll etc. What is the word on these kayaks? Can I test ride these anywhere? Where to make the purchase? Do any shops give veteran discounts? Any other kayaks I should consider?
TIA!

I was looking at these types of kayaks a couple of months ago. In addition to the two Sportsman models, the ones I was considering were the Bonafide PWR129 and the Nucanoe Unlimited for ocean fishing.

I couldn't find anywhere to demo them either but did get a chance to see and chat with someone who was in one of the EPDLs. He had upgraded from an Ocean Kayak as well and said that he liked how it handled in open water. My first impression of it was that it looked huge next to my Trident 13. I got a chance to test the weight out as he was loading it into his truck bed and that thing is heavy! He had a truck bed extender that day but told me he was thinking of getting a trailer for it. Putting it up on a roof rack, which is one of my requirements, does not sound appealing at all so if that's something you're planning on doing, keep that in mind. Just looking at the specs of the other 2 I mentioned, they are similar.

Kayak City in Citrus Heights is a dealer for the Sportsman and Bonafide. They don't do demos but you can at least go take a look at them there. Lodi Paddlesports also has them, I think.

Monterey Bay Kayak is one of the dealer. Check with Adam if they have a demo model for that kayak.
