Mendo was slow but generous.

my boss green lit my mental day off.    so i met up with Paul.  water was more turbulent than i am used to.  i got minor queasiness midway, but just powered thru.  sun was playing peek-a-boo all day. 

if you fish with Paul, you get used to hearing him yell, "fish on!" repeatedly.   he has a strange gravitational pull to LingCod.   luckily, i enjoy and relish celebrating his catch.    i stay near him, mimic him, and i'm like that awkward kid at the school ling cod dance.  haha.  but i am ready to show off my dance moves!

i sent down 4 sand dabs and got zero love.  1.5 hours to go;  i changed rigs and targeted rockfish.  i am 100% Vermillion with Paul.  i got two good ones immediately on the drop.  And i had given me homework.  i needed a few small fish that would fit into a rice cooker, or my Japanese clay pot rice cooker.  i have a recipe to try.  i sent down the shrimp-fly.  we found a blue rockfish town meeting.  it was back to back fish.  i felt a small tap, and reeled up..and it got immediately heavy.   the yank was big.  i hauled up a 28" Ling!!  it had my tiny blue-cod sucked up in its mouth and my shrimp fly was hooked down deep.  in 1.5 hours i loaded my bag.

anyways, it was my first limit day.   at home, i was, "oh no!  i have to clean a limit!". 

i am tired.  i felt my bed moving with the chop all night.  my back hurts because my fish cleaning table is too low.

and new rookie lesson learned. NEVER EVER EVER let a seagull eat a chunk of squid.   paul and i were surrounded by those free loaders the last hour.  hahah..  99.9% sure my slingshot is illegal as heck.

Nice work!  Way to stick it out - 28" ling along with a rockfish limit is a nice reward for your perseverance!

I feel you on the limit that needs cleaning. My dream is to find someone in town who loves rockfish so much they would agree to clean/fillet it all for me in exchange for half my catch lol

I want full on concierge service on the beach.  I surf in..they catch me, I hop off and they take it from there.  carry my catch in..drag my kayak back up.  hahahha...

but yea.  a fish cleaner at the fish cleaning station, I would be down with that!!

Yes, I caught some crabs from RG around 100' of water which is workout.
