Thinking about trolling specifically. Anyone prefer egg sinkers over the plastic sliding sinker clips?

I've got a mess of egg sinkers to 6oz.  I more drift troll though yet I'm not sure why I alternate between both systems.  Egg sinker seems more streamline.   I put 2 beads on either end of the egg sinker to prevent knot and tip smashing.   :smt006

This is what I was thinking - should be able to keep depth easier with an egg. Do you find one way tangles more than the other?

I slap a mess of bead chains all over the place, figuratively of course.  More eel grass on the slider cuz the swivel hanging and the weight.  Only problem with the egg is if you wanted to change the weight you have to retie.  I made a handful of sliding egg leaders with different weights to change out but I didn't care for all the different connections...

That's an interesting idea - pre-tied egg sinker leaders.  I think I've seen something like that marketed for freshwater, sold as pre-tied Carolina rigs, but they came with sinker, hook, etc. Just snap onto your main line and go.

I think I'm gonna try out some egg swivels, mostly for situations where I know how much weight I want to use before I get started.

I do pretied eggs to clip in and out of snap and barrel swivels for trout. However, I find myself using leadcore and snap weights much more often. However I’m doing trout and freshwater fishing mostly. The 3-16oz or small eggs are great for toplining dodgers that have a bad problem planing. Just splice em in 2 or so feet in front of the dodger.

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish

I was thinking trout would be a great application for this.  Both for top-lining with a dodger, as you mentioned, and larger eggs for when I know I need to get to a certain depth.  I troll with a 2 oz teardrop on a sliding sinker a fair bit, and I am thinking an egg sinker might be a little better for presentation.

Also, thinking 5-6 oz egg sinkers for saltwater trolling/drifting setups might work well too, especially with swimbaits.

I use clip weights for >1oz usually. The same one SplitMilt uses. Up to 6-7 Oz sometimes trolling deep. Better than a slider in terms of hookup ratio
