This past weekend, I camped out on the Sand Dab site at Timber Cove. It is a small spot tucked away on the beach, but perfect for a kayak fishing trip. You can drive down your stuff, unload, and park at the office. There is a fish cleaning station and potable water on the beach. I used a combo of frozen squid on a trap rig and Squidtrex lures (tipped with squid). Conditions were perfect, and I got a decent grade of vermillion, canary, black, and gopher rockfish on the first afternoon. I cooked one of the rockfish right on the beach after setting up camp, making a fried fish banh mi.

I wake up the next morning and set off right away, this time working the south side of the cove. My first bite was a yelloweye rockfish. There aren't as many reds down south so I'm not used to IDing them but my hunch was that this was a yelloweye and I'm fairly sure my ID was correct after Googling it back home. It was safely released. Next bite my reel starts screaming and of course it's a lingcod - 30" on squid. I finish off with a canary and big brown and head back to the beach, where I cook up some tacos.

Full video of the trip here (first few minutes is me doing some seaside bouldering, fishing and cooking comes soon after).

Excellent video.  Thanks for sharing.

That's a beautiful landing net.  Who made that?

Great video, as usual. I like the heal-hook boulder moves. Do you ever have an issue with RF spines and the inflatable?
When I had an i9, I placed a thick rubber bath mat in my work area for unhooking fish.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

Yeah I've gotten what I'd call a micropuncture twice. Just a tiny fizzling sound and not enough air lost to even consider going in early. I just patch it up afterwards and it's okay. Most boards including mine are pretty tough and the traction mat is a good work surface. Mostly I am worried about shark attacks, I see the non-fatal attacks on kayaks where they take a bite out of the plastic, and I just imagine it will go much worse for an inflatable.

But overall I like fishing on a paddleboard. I just sit cross-legged and paddle like a kayak and am quite comfortable and stable. It's portable, easy to launch, and I can hike it to launches that may otherwise be inaccessible.

Man that was a soothing watch. Love TC.

Cool to see a minimalist fishing setup out there too. And I agree that's a sweet net!
