New to ocean fishing but not new to the ocean (years of surfing, diving, etc)

Family is going to Olema for 4th July weekend. It is really close to Tomales and I was thinking of trying some fishing in the bay. Considering the location (near the south end of the bay) where I'll be, is there a close launch point (PA 14 with the beach wheels off a pickup bed) and likely fishing grounds for halibut (I suppose?) that I might want to try? I think I could get over there one or two mornings, weather dependent.

Chicken Ranch or Hearts Desire are good launch points on the South end. Chicken Ranch is a bit closer but Hearts Desire is a great family destination. Bring everyone, some oysters, a bunch of stuff to grill, water toys and make a day of it! You could dip out for a couple hours and hardly be missed.....

Fish are up by Hog Island and north now.  But fish can be found deeper in the bay.  Find the bait balls, find the fish.

As Michael Tsuri mentioned, chicken ranch and hearts desire are great places on the peninsula side.  In the other side, Millerton, Marconi, and Marshall have small pullouts/ramps where you can launch but are less family friendly.

If you can get up to Nicks Cove/Miller boat ramp, then fish south and north of the island along the channel.  You’ll find the fish there.
