Scotty down rigger adapter plate

So I wasn’t a huge fan of using the Scotty track adapter on the Scotty down rigger. It is very wobbly and since I prefer to have the down rigger on my left it loosens during use. I didn’t like the idea of drilling holes in my kayak to use the base it comes with so I made an adapter plate out of 1/4” aluminum that attaches to the double rails on my hobie outback. The stainless t-bolts and thumb screws are from yakattack. The machine screws are brass 1/4”-20x 1.5” with brass washers, lock washers, and nuts on the bottom. I’ve only tried it out twice but it’s a huge improvement. I don’t feel like it’s going to damage my rails anymore and I can always change my mind without having holes in my kayak to use. How’d you guys go about mounting your down riggers?

I have a compass (single track each side). The DR has too much leverage for the track so I drilled holes and installed the Scotty mount. It turns out I haven't had much use for the DR the last few years.

Thanks. Yeah I don’t plan on using it a ton either but it’s nice to have the option without extra holes. Do you use the Scotty mount for anything else when you don’t have a down rigger in it?

I've been contemplating how to mount a DR on my Passport, but I also only have one rail, and I'm not super sold on where exactly I should mount it yet.  Where did you put your Scotty mount?

Mine is on the port gunwale, pretty much next to my left thigh. I think you want to choose the side where you prefer to land a fish. You're also gonna want to choose a spot where you can access the underside to install a backing plate under the mount.
