Launched at early thirty and hailed my buddy on his boat.  He's gotta go back to work so he will soon be obligated to fish Saturdays only.  This week he's fishing all week almost or truly every day.  Since he's gonna be gone on my fishy days I suggested I park da stealth on da beach and he take me on as his !st mate.  My buddy's name is Terry.  We used to fish the piers together so it was a bit of a nostalgic event fishing alongside on his boat.  This was a difficult decision for me because I was no longer captain of my own ship and I had to learn his style of captaining and what he needed from me as a guest.  It was a great experience but I know I'm a yak guy.

One advantage was jamming around to all his famous drifts and covering ground quickly.  Before the tide slowed he had one.  We hit a bait spot on the slack and found beautiful sardines.  Best bait day ever.  4 anchovies and a dude gave us 10 more.  Eight or so shiners.  Couple large smelt and warrior blue sardines, maybe 6, good size.  Jammed up north of hog after a !st mate bungle getting my line wound in his prop, braid no doubt and grateful he didn't drop me off at da beach.

We started a drift at hog as the tide turned and I got a slam.  ZZZ...ZZZ...felt like head shakes but more muscle and color...boom...fairly fat striper...maybe 28".  After that we jammed north for an east side drift towards hog.  Boom, Terry's on and hali #2 on deck.  Drifting through I hooked sumpin' fierce and mega doormat hopeful, to be shattered by a winged gangster stingray.  Broke off.  Was a pain and heavy.  Boom...Terry hooks up again to begin a boat limit.  Yay for me!

Honorable mention for Terry's popped off bendo doormat hali.  The way that Phenix was glued parabolic style was highly indicative of a large flatty.  We never saw it but both knew it was certainly a "fish story". :smt005

Had to be back for some WAF action but got tied up in traffic.

Might be back Friday.

Happy, happy, joy, joy!

Always interesting to see the trade offs when you hop on a buddies boat, less paddling but harder to get the slow troll and harder to get the boat where you want it to be from the passenger seat. Had mixed results but same as you certainly prefer captin'in my own vessel.

Thanks for the boat based report Eddie!

Thank you for the great report, Eddie.
I sure miss fishing with you, or more like chasing you around.

Nice report Eddie and congrats on the good eats. I did the first mate thing on Sunday for the first time in a long time -- the ease of transport between long distances was nice but the satisfaction of finding and landing the fish is not nearly the same. Hope to see you on the water soon when we're captains of our own "ships."
Cheers!
Brad
