I can't catch fish, but I can sail!

On opening day (May 1) in Santa Cruz, I fished in the morning from about 6:30-10:30am, then came back to the harbor for "work"---which consisted of sitting in my car in the parking lot with my laptop. Then it was back out on the water for speed sailing after 3:00pm.

The video takes a while to get going, but if you stick with it, you will see a pretty dramatic difference between the the amount of water splashing when going 6+ mph as compared to 8+ mph. Given that there were no whitecaps, the wind was probably little (if any) more than 10 mph which, IMHO, makes the top speed fairly impressive.

That’s a lot of fun!!  I am surprised on the increased speed with the jib.  No need for fishing when sailing is so good. 😊

Good stuff! Thanks for sharing. I remember you had a furling jib, but it’s cool to see it in action. It’s different from the Hobie spinnaker and seems better!

I feel like I would've remembered seeing a speedster out on the water! Where were you??

Coming in hot! I thought there was a 5 mph limit inside the breakwater. Hooligan!

I’m curious you don’t seem to use the trampolines

One of the appealing things about hobies is all the real estate the tramps give you

Place to put things, maybe take a nap

Stay tuned... I actually just got a sewing machine, and the first thing I plan to do is to make trampolines (a little different style than those from Hobie, of course). Then I want to make a new sail...
