Disappointing day because of a slip of fingers. First bite was a bat ray that peeled off a couple hundred feet of line and when I decided to break it off I didn't realize I was into the backing and the braid and mono parted. OK. Retie time but then no swivels or snaps in the gear bag. Forgot them. So cut a swivel off a sinker and tie to mono then add swimbait. Finally a bite which I play and then gaff and slip stringer through gills then bonk and as I go to tie the stringer off on the kayak it just slips out of my fingers and down goes a 30 inch halibut to the bottom. Damn damn damn. First time that ever happened to me. Resume fishing and get a good bite but on for five seconds and off. Fish three hours more pedaling kayak against the incoming to make my drift. Finally after 7 hours I leave. Might try Friday again if wind permits.

Sorry about your got away Halibut.   Hope you catch his Big Mama on Friday.   Thanks for the report Charles.

What a bummer! But, look on the bright side--you made a sea lion very happy...

That is not a bright side. I feel about lions as you do.

I'm gonna try my luck tomorrow AM. Conditions look dreamy. If nothing else, the water therapy... Will plan to arrive early AM.
