I’m planning my first visit to ARW, and I wanted to confirm that’s the spot people usually launch from.
Any tips for my first fishing trip there?

That spot or on the sand behind behind it.

That's the spot.  Make sure to lock your car.  Plan your trip with tides in mind - the current can be rough though there.  Wind picks up in the afternoon, and it gets pretty choppy, especially if the wind and current is going opposite directions.

Smelt are usually plentiful, and sabiki rigs with 3 hooks (SF Bay regs) can be trolled with good success. Sometimes they are kinda big for bait, but you know what they say about big baits...

Normal halibut strategy works here, fish the edges of the holes/deep spots and you will probably find halibut.  There is a shallow flat just outside the launch that holds stripers too.

There are usually other kayakers out there, and often folks from here.

Do you recommend using a dodger for Hali there?

It's hit or miss. I always bring one, and plan to switch things up if I don't get any bites in areas I've been bit before.
