I’m thinking about an aluminum one. My stock plastic one is rough.

Any downsides?  Like the shaft cracks or something?

I have been using an aluminum one for the last two years without any issues.

Just curious if you made the aluminum rudder yourself or purchased it somewhere. Also, how thick is it, and does it weigh much more than the stock plastic rudder?

I made an aluminum "shark fin" rudder for my Hobie AI. It's 1/4" thick  and seems a bit heavy. I have not had a chance to test it yet, so I don't know if the extra weight is a negative, positive, or neither...

Here is link to where I purchased it from, https://www.snipeairindustries.com/product-page/sai-super-rudder  It looks like 1/8" or thiner.  If you want exact measurement, please let me know.

Looks nice. Is it the same size as the stock rudder? Do you notice any difference, such as better turning radius?

It is slightly larger and helps turning.
