Hello All,

I have been interested in a deep sea fishing adventure on my kayak, but always thought the 50 fathom line was just too far to reach without a boat... Until I checked the interactive map and realized that one of the way points is actually quite close to Carmel Beach. using a coordinate distance calculator, it's about half a mile from shore. Is this voyage possible? Safe? Has anyone tried it, and are there any fishes to be caught out there? Or am I better off kayaking 2 miles to the 50 fathom line from Mosslanding?

EDIT: I guess I unlocked the Members Only Fishing Report Page and I am seeing that this is a common voyage that people make and are quite successful.

Cheers,

Possible.  And others have done it.  Choose a good day.

Oh dang, I always thought the waves were pretty small at Carmel beach!

I wouldn’t hesitate to launch there if conditions are good. It’s a beach so you can always swim your yak through the surf

I’ve launched all over that stretch of coast you just have to pay attention like anywhere else

Quality of the fish is really good

I got into a situation above Carmel where I launched through a rock garden on high tide in 4-5’ swell then coming in navigating the garden on low tide was a beast
