I been fishing the lakes pretty regularly for 6 years and still haven’t caught a lightning trout. Hooked a nice one at Contra Loma but it got off at the net. One of these days maybe I’ll catch a big one.

Haha, nice!

I think maybe half of the larger trout I catch at EB parks are lightnings. I mostly fish Contra Loma and Shadow Cliffs, and have WAY more trout success at Shadow Cliffs. I wish I could figure out Contra Loma - it is much closer for me.

I used to walk about a mile to Temescal before Hwy24 was constructed. At that time there were goldfish, bullfrogs, and crayfish to catch. Would have been around 1964 when I was 7 years old. Hard to believe we could come and go as we pleased back then without any adult supervision.

There is a pretty big goldfish in the Contra Costa canal in Walnut Creek.  I've seen it quite a few times since I noticed about a year ago - I ride my bike the canal trail about once a month or so, more so when it is warmer out.  It hangs out with a school of bluegills - it is quite a big larger than any of the other fish it hangs out with.  I'd guess it is 14" or so.
