What worked for me was switching to a higher quality waterproof case that doesn’t compromise the camera’s capabilities. I found a good one at https://inarascases.com/. It’s a bit of an investment but worth it if you need to use your phone for work in those conditions.

Most phones these days are pretty waterproof. Not 100%, you will probably need to let it dry out before charging with a cord, but waterproof enough to survive a splash or a dunk.

I just have a simple rubber case, no water protection at all. I also lanyard the phone around my neck or to my PFD. These little lanyard anchors work great, slip between the phone and case, and are very secure.

My PFD also has a very convenient and secure pocket for my phone too, which is pretty nice. Very easy to pop it out, get a picture, and put it back.

This absolutely was the right choice to get better quality pictures for me as well.  No bag will ever be good for the pictures, but the cases are a good option.

I'm still not willing to trust that my phones charger, mic and speakers can stand up to saltwater abuse.  But I did get a case that is as you describe, and is like just and outside case that covers up the ports.  The camera takes way nice pictures this way, and fits in my PFD pocket.  I still feel like keeping it in my drybag most of the time though  :smt044

My case doesn't even cover the charge port, haha.  I do rinse my phone with everything else after a saltwater trip, but usually don't take the case off for that.

I've seen rubber plugs for the charging hole, for various plug types. My camera lens is under the back glass on the phone, so I'm not too worried about that.

The speakers are probably the most vulnerable part, TBH.

I should also mention, I use a Google Pixel 6 - not exactly out a lot if I break it.  I think I spent more on my FF bundle than on my phone, haha.

I use GaiaGPS on the water, and on a long day, I need to recharge, so not being able to charge a phone that has gottne slightly damp is a problem. I tried a wireless charger too, and it was even more finicky than a corded charger.

For my iPhone, I now use an OtterBox, which covers the charge port. If it's dunked under water, I'm sure that it won't keep the charge port dry enough, but it seems to do the job if there are a few minor splashes, wet fingers, etc.

The problem I now have is that once I hook up the charger, I put the phone and charger in a plastic bag to keep everything dry, and it overheats before it's completely charged.

The bottom line is that I find it very annoying to have a "waterproof" phone that isn't...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
