Hi Everybody,

I'm Glenn. I live in eastern Fresno County, but run my PA14 out to Monterey once every week or two when I can to target rockfish mostly. I am pretty new to the kayak game and I don't have a lot of time or freedom to pursue the passion with my first child on the way Oct. 15th 2024. This summer I landed my first lingcod in late April. It was 19" (and too early in the year), but was a great accomplishment. I caught my first (barely) legal ling the next week in season. Caught a third small one the following trip. I think I caught all three on frozen squid using either high-low rig or a live bait rig.
Two weeks ago I caught three lings 19"-22" in one trip. Last week I fought the wind the whole day and didn't have much luck or fun.

I am still learning a lot about how to read my Lowrance Hook Reveal 5 in the ocean. I'm not sure what squid look like compared to other schools of bait. I am also learning a lot about how to navigate the bay when the wind picks up and peddling becomes exhausting.

I have yet to hook any halibut. I also have had very little success in targeting squid. Those are goals to improve in future trips.

I will head out to Monterey from the coast guard pier for the last time this year (due to wife being late in her pregnancy) Thursday Aug. 8, 2024. Say hi and share some good luck if you see me.
Always on the prowl in my PA14, except for most days. Then I have to settle for dreaming.

Welcome to NCKA, Glenn, and congratulations on your child on the way!

What do you wear for immersion?

I have not found anything I enjoy wearing for immersion yet. Generally, I dress in light clothing that will not wick water too quickly like cotton.

I took my brother's old wetsuit out of the garge, but found it is too small and holey. Also, I think it is probably too thick to stay comfortable in. Then I purched a cheaper and thinner wetsuit from someone off FB Marketplace, but it also seems like I will get hot and chafe in it.

Do you have any recommendations? I have seen drysuits on dedicated fishermen at the boatlaunch, but they are very expensive.
